The contemporary workplace is fond of knowledge workers particularly in the nursing field. A knowledge worker handles information, integrates knowledge, and applies expertise to accomplish work and resolve complex problems (Shujahat et al., 2019). Knowledge workers do not need to use their hands to perform as manual laborers do, but use their brains, critical thinking and analysis. They receive, decode and utilize information to the advantage of their organizations and stakeholders.

Medication error among nurses in my hospital environment is increasing. This situation demands the access to data, its collection, and analysis to resolve the issues. I am observing the increase in the number of prescription errors among the nurses in my healthcare the organization as an expert nurse informaticist. This trend is an immediate threat to patient safety and clinical procedure efficiency. A further examination shows that one of the biggest problems is the absence of similar drug administration and documentation practices between units.
Calculating the causes of these errors demonstrates that the inefficiency of the processes and discrepancies between the practices are key contributors. Nurses vary in the administration of medicine, the checking of medicine twice, communication and record keeping. Such discrepancies increase the risk of mistakes and make it more difficult to monitor and analyze incidents related to medicine.
