Civic Action Scorecard Assignment

As homework assignments throughout the semester, you will complete several actions from Miami Dade College’s Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy’s Civic Action Scorecard. 

Follow directions and be sure to provide the required documentation for each action. You will submit a journal with various forms of documentation and a reflection essayabout your experiences. While there are many activities listed on the Scorecard, you will be required to complete the nine (9) below:

• DE-6 – Know your elected officials at city, county, state, and US level (page 8)
• DE-9 – Email or write your elected official (page 9)
• DE-21 – Write a Letter to the Editor or Op-Ed (page 13)
• DE-22 – Read two civic articles, at least 3 pages each (page 14)
• DE-27 – Take practice Citizenship Exam with passing score (page 15)
• ES-4 – Review the UNSDGs (page 18)
• ES-7 – Calculate your slavery footprint (page 19)
• ES-9 – Calculate your carbon footprint (page 19)
• ES-10 – Watch at least two videos from “The Story of Stuff” series (page 20)

Finally, you will write a Final Civic Action Reflective Essay on the experiences you had completing all nine (9) civic action from the required scorecard list.  Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. How has your engagement with this civic action assignment influenced your understanding of the issues?
2. What will you do differently as a result of completing this civic action assignment?

Some of these activities will be part of our other assignments for the course. For example, items DE-6, DE-9, and DE-21 will be part of the research project (Advocacy Letter Assignment).
