Chapters # 1-3

Overview
The first chapter covers the introduction to Real Estate in California. This chapter consists of six sections including; California’s Real Estate market, real and personal property, methods of land description, chapter summary, matching terminology, and the chapter quiz. All answers are given at the end of each chapter for quizzes and matching terminology.

Key Concepts from chapter 1
I learned that there are many different rights that come with buying real property. Such as, with landownership comes the rights to the space that is above our land and extends below our feet to the center of the Earth (Demonstrated in figure 1-4 on page 11).  There are also differences in types of properties that exist in California. 

Key concepts from chapter
The second thing I learned is there are two types of estates, freehold and less-than-freehold. Freehold is an estate of indeterminable duration, such a fee simple of life estate. A less-then-freehold are personal rights to the use of real property for a period of time and is considered personal property. (pg.31)

Key concepts from chapter 3
The third thing I learned is there are also rights for general contractors, craftsmen, and subcontractors called “Mechanic Liens”. This gives somebody who was contracted for labor, materials or construction work the right to file a lein if they were not paid for their labor. This means the property cannot be transferred until the obligation is paid.
