Values and Ethics: Explanation of Infographic
My assumptions, preferences, and emotional reactions are also constituted by personal values based on family, culture, faith, and the experiences I have had. The NASW Code of Ethics has professional values which emphasize service, social justice, dignity, integrity, and competence. In parts where they diverge, individualistic beliefs may unwillingly distort judgments, treatment selection, or advocacy programs; reflective supervision and consciousness get over this danger (Barsky & Barsky, 2024).
Ideally, values inform ethical judgment-making by focusing on client self-determination, just access, and evidence-based intervention. Competency suggests working within the sphere of practice, training, and research to inform care. Integrity means being truthful and transparent about decisions to the clients. Boundaries ensure the protection of the welfare of the client by ensuring that personal relationships and the professional position are not intertwined (Pakkanen et al., 2023). Social justice asks us to acknowledge and deal with structural barriers that impact the clients.
Critical thinking helps build professional judgments by integrating data, client goals, ethical beliefs, and cultural competence to choose interventions consistent with optimal outcomes. The moral dilemmas that are expected to be encountered in practice are dual relationships, a shortage of resources, and the need to balance between autonomy and safety. I want to develop cultural humility, trauma-informed practice, and advocacy (Reamer, 2022).
To advocate on behalf of the clients, I will mobilize the community resources, develop targeted referrals, and collaborate with case managers to minimize barriers, practice based on ethics and values that build empowerment, dignity, and equitable opportunity (Sivreva & Benkova, 2024). This is a profession that will require constant thought and responsibility.
